ILLUSION SETTINGS
Not everyone can afford or indeed would want to spend a great deal of money on a big dazzling diamond ring. That said, many dream they had a big diamond ring if only money were no object! There are, however, some simple ways of making diamonds in jewellery look much bigger. Two such ways are:
- Illusion Plate – is a setting accomplished by mounting a small diamond in a mirror-like gold metal plate which diffuses the outline of the stone causing it to look much larger.
- Cluster Setting – as the name suggests, has a number of mounted diamonds clustered together in such a way as to create the illusion of a big solitaire diamond.
There is a third way using the above techniques, and that is using both together, mirrored plates and clusters of them together to achieve an even bigger look.
The total cost of these types of setting is much less than a solitaire diamond of equivalent weight. However, both settings involve a lot of expertise and skill to achieve.
